Joanne
Joanne is a single mother of 4 children, two of whom have significant medical needs. She and her family are living in a one bedroom shelter, with no kitchen. When COVID-19 began, Joanne didn’t know how she was going to feed her children.
Joanne didn’t have money for food or warm clothing for her children. She was unable to leave the shelter because her son is vulnerable and it’s too risky to go outside; and she can’t leave him alone. She doesn’t have a kitchen to cook Thanksgiving Dinner for her children.
Over 150 families at NAC are homeless and living in shelters. Others are living in apartments with no heat, and many more have lost minimum wage jobs and can no longer afford food or basic necessities for their families, and don’t know when they will be able to work again. NAC delivers bags of groceries and prepared meals to Joanne and over 200 families across NYC.
